High blood pressure diagnosis
White coat syndrome, also refered to as white coat hypertension, occurs when a person's blood pressure is elevated in a doctor's office but normal in other settings. This phenomenon is triggered by stress or anxiety associated with medical visits. Masked hypertension is the opposite of white coat syndrome. It occurs when a person's blood pressure readings are normal at the doctor's office but elevated at home or during daily activities. Remote monitoring of blood pressure allows doctors to identify both these conditions and diagnose hypertension.
Lowering the Blood Pressure
The goal of prescribing anti-hypertensive medication and lifestyle advisory is to lower the blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke and kidney disease. Successful high blood pressure (BP) lowering is directly related to patient adherence to treatment and the correct dosaging of medication. A change in BP during treatment is an indication of either under or over treatment. However absence of change may indicate either patient non-adherence or non-effective drug teatment. Remote BP monitoring ensures confirmation of treatment efficacy and can identify patient non-adherence to therapeutic intervention.
